在大遷徙的隊伍中 是誰停下腳步

望著星星思念某人 而非確認方向

看著樹林吟唱歌謠 而非尋找材薪

聞著海風緩緩起舞 而非撒網獵魚

 

當人開始欣賞眼前的一切

世界才逐漸形成

1914年日治時期日人進駐梵梵山,正式於境內調查發現宜蘭濁水溪(今蘭陽溪)兩岸蘊藏大量優良林木,尤其是在檜木的質量上優於阿里山甚至超過日本境內「木曾檜木材 KISO HINOKI」,隔年便立即回報採取計畫性開發此「眠腦」山區(泰雅族語,今太平山) 。(註1)

此山區乃當時台灣本島最兇悍的原住族人泰雅族溪頭群和南澳群棲息之處,日人在未經族人同意且毫無補償的情況下任將林地佔為官有,大量砍伐優質林木運回日本作為高級建材,雙方衝突屢見,而這所謂「森林開發」乃是破壞原住族人獵區、聖地之行為,更是毀滅一個族群的文明、社會結構與生活方式的紀實。

戰後,1921年宜蘭營林所遷移羅東,當時有三分之一的人口靠著木材業維生,奠定羅東甚至是整個宜蘭縣境內日後工商產業發展的基礎。此乃先民集體經營的成果。

而此忽視原住人民之既有傳統、習俗與生活方式,掠奪、破壞自然資源之行為乃時有所見,那些過去所發生的事件一再重複,未曾離去。

 

作者以昔日林場伐木工具如縱切鋸、尖頭鋸、改良鋸、單面鋸、收尾鋸等之複製鋸片,插置於一砍伐後的木材上方,猶如其枝葉,成一奇木,可視為碑,是為警惕,亦為緬懷。

Who stopped in the procession of the Great Migration?

During the Japanese occupation in 1914, the Japanese settled in Mount Fanfan, and a formal investigation in the territory found that there were a large number of fine trees on both sides of the Zhuoshui River in Yilan (now Lanyang River). KISO HINOKI", and immediately reported the plan to develop this "Minnao" mountainous area (Atayal language, today Taipingshan) the following year. (Note 1)

 

This mountainous area was the habitat of the Atayal Mnibu and Kelesan, the most fierce aboriginal people in Taiwan at that time. The Japanese took the forest land as official property without the consent of the tribe and without compensation, and cut down a large number of high-quality trees. When they were transported back to Japan as high-grade building materials, conflicts between the two sides were common, and the so-called "forest development" was the act of destroying the hunting areas and holy places of the aborigines, and it was also a documentary that destroyed the civilization, social structure and way of life of an ethnic group.

 

After the war, the Yilan Forestry Institute moved to Luodong in 1921. At that time, one-third of the population depended on the timber industry for a living, laying the foundation for the future industrial and commercial development of Luodong and even the entire Yilan County. This is the result of the collective management of the ancestors.

 

However, this ignores the existing traditions, customs and way of life of the indigenous people, plundering and destroying natural resources is seen from time to time.

 

 

The author used the replica saw blades of the former forestry logging tools such as slitting saws, pointed saws, improved saws, single-sided saws, finishing saws, etc., and inserted them on the top of a felled wood, like its branches and leaves, into a strange wood, which can be regarded as The monument is for vigilance and memory.
